Read More Most of the Eastern people who have traveled to the West have been fascinated by the progress of the West. Thus. they mainly turn aside from the East and its cultural manifestations and try to compare the East and the West to conclude the cultural superiority of the latter. Although such a comparison comes along with some factual details. it shows essentially the fascination of these people with the West and the way they exaggerate in expressing its cultural development. This article is an effort to make a comparative study of Mirzª Sªleh Shirazi’s Travelogue and Rifa’a Al-Tahtªwi’s Takhlis Al-Ibriz from Egypt based on the Slavic school and elaborate on the conflict between the oriental “Me” and the Western “Other”. The results show that both writers believed that the despotic political system. illiteracy and widespread ignorance and superstition were the main reasons why Eastern countries were left backward and undeveloped. Moreover. the research shows that Mirzª Sªleh was more fascinated with the European culture and civilization than Rifa'a al-Tahtªwi. though the latter endeavored to describe impartially the West in its positive and negative features. Finally. Rifa'a al-Tahtªwi's language and literary style and objective description are more solid and effective than those Mirzª Sªleh Shirªzi. Tahtªwi depicts the West with his strong literary style and exaggerates it in his articles but implicitly refers to the East's preference for the West in its aspects of civilization. civilization and culture in its lines of journeys. and tries to convey to the Egyptian or Arab interlocutors that it is necessary to look for the causes of its ancient civilization in its rich heritage Taking advantage of the civilization of the West. especially the French. Mirzª sªleh is also an exaggeration in the portrayal of the Westerner and his exaggeration in mentioning his material to the Eastern Iranian nation. The book of Mirzª Sªleh Shirªzi’s Travelogue is characterized by the positions and stories of the owner and his meetings and dialogues and discussions with others and the incidence of accidents and surprises and joys and sorrows. while introducing Rifa’a Al-Tahtªwi’s Takhlis Al-Ibriz on such things and was more likely to be an analyst describing without going into the positions and stories that were presented on his trip.

Read More Intertextuality is one of the most commonly used terms in the field of language and literature. It deals with the interaction of texts with each other. According to the theories of intertextuality, no text is independent and each text is a combination of different texts that consciously or unconsciously utilize each other’s literary and intellectual sources. Religious intertextuality is one of the critical approaches used to investigate correlations and interactions between religious texts. The Quran is one of the most valuable and influential sources of inspiration used by writes. Ibn al-Arandas al-Hilly is a poet and literary icon from the ninth century AH. He was fascinated by the Quran and the teachings of Ahl al-Bayt. His poetry, especially his famous poem “Raeeyeh” which is in praise of Imam Hussein, reflects Quranic themes. This article studies two kinds of intertextuality between this poem and Quranic verses: lexical and personality (summoning Quranic characters). Our analysis of the poem shows that Quranic verses and themes are present in the majority of its verses and this indicates the poet’s deep appreciation of Quran and religious texts and his respect for and admiration of Ahl al-Bayt and, in particular, Imam Hussein. The abundance of intertextuality between Ibn al-Arandas’ poems and the Quran is a prominent characteristic of his poetry and an indication of the intentional use of Quranic verses in order to convey his message in a more accurate and effective way. The present research is descriptive-analytical and therefore, after presenting theoretical discussions, analyzes the intertextuality between this poem and the Quran. The findings of this study demonstrate that the intertextual relations between the two texts are mostly in the form of partial negation (17 cases) and there is only one case in the form of complete negation. The poet, in this one case, has made little modification so that the meanings of words and sentences are in agreement with the Quran’ text.

Read More Discourse analysis is a description of the linguistic units of literary texts in a clear and systematic way. The study of the internal structure of discourse is based on real words and interpretations, and is studied from four angles: phonetic, morphological, syntactic, and semantic. “Leave and Fight in your hands” is one of the poems of Gouida. We have chosen this poem because it is addressed to US President, while many scholars have mistakenly attributed it to the Arab revolutions, and because it is about confronting W. Bush. There are unique linguistic features in it; thus the study of its lexical angles in light of the theory of communication is considered the best tool for its analysis. Therefore, the present study examines the most obvious levels of discourse analysis in the light of communication theory. The most important finding of this research is that Gouida has successfully achieved the goals of communication theory in his poem because it has been able to convey its discourse well to the specific recipient (George Bush) and the general (Arab nations). On the phonemic level, the study shows the predominance of loud and intense voices on the vocal space of the poem due to its revolutionary nature. It also revealed that the repetition of letters, vocabulary and sentences match the essence of the poem. Thus, Gouida created a direct emotional effect that helped to persuade the recipient, and contributed to the escalation of the discourse’s power. On the morphological level, the results of the analysis show the use of nouns in abundance in order to convince the recipient. On the grammatical level, the poet employed the method of introduction and delay, and paralleled the grammatical methods in abundance to focus on the imperialist face of America by influencing the recipient. On the semantic level, we see the expansion of the linguistic lexicon and the fields of semantics and their structures, as its main objective is to present facts related to the occupation of Iraq by a tyrannical president.
